This time of year my skin always needs a little help shedding it's winter coat (yes, that's a thing, I promise!). I gave in to temptation a few weeks ago and bought a scrub at the store, but noticed soon after using it that my face was breaking out. I tend to be really sensitive to bath products, and after realizing that I couldn't pronounce most of the ingredients, I decided the scrub was bad news and started experimenting with making my own. The best part? I already had everything in my pantry. The result not only smelled amazing but also looked pretty:
I went with a brown sugar scrub because it was what I had, and added oatmeal for some calming. The vanilla doesn't do anything skin wise - it just smells good :).
So, here is the recipe:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/4 of a cup olive oil
1/8 of a cup honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Mix the brown sugar and oatmeal in a bowl. Mix in the olive oil, honey, and vanilla. Store in an air tight, water tight container.
I just put it in a mason jar because that's what I had laying around, and it works pretty well, but really any container that's shower safe will do. And a note on olive oil - it will plug up the skin, so I usually wash my face after I use the scrub. It still feels nice and soft but I don't get any oil residue. If your face is tougher than mine, it's totally okay to leave on there.
That amount filled about about 3/4 of an 8 oz mason jar, and has lasted about two weeks...even with my husband sneaking a few scoops!
