I've decided that the t-shirt rag rug is going to go in the kitchen at our new place...which of course led to deciding that we need new kitchen linens to go along with it! I am determined to start having decor that actually matches instead of stuff that looks thrown together :P. Then I saw these cuties from Heidi Kenney for Sublime Stitching at my local fabric store and knew they were exactly what I was looking for. They also had this pack of embroidery floss, (available here), which ended up in my basket right away:
I got just plain white tea towels to use as the backdrop; since the rug is all different colors, I have tons of room to play when it comes to the embroidery, and I didn't want the towels themselves to be the focus. I'm also planning on making some potholders and oven mitts, but that will come after the towels.
The iron ons are really easy to use, although it took me a little while to get the hang of leaving the iron on long enough. Some of the lines turned out a little light, but they're definitely still legible.
From there, I just picked out floss and got to stitching. I used a back stitch for the smaller elements, like the eyes, and then a split stitch on the bigger parts. It stitched up in a night, and turned out really cute.
I'm so excited to finish the rest! But...maybe I should be packing instead?!
